Student Jobs
Does IMPACT offer student jobs?
Absolutely! Lots of students like to earn a penny on the side. IMPACT is happy to help you take your first steps into the job market. Contact our offices for more information about the wide range of jobs!
Can I work as a student?
Are you at least 16 years old or have you already completed the first 2 years of your secondary education as a 15-year-old? Then you can get started as a job student.
If you are no longer of compulsory school age (and therefore over 18), you can only work as a job student if you are still taking classes. If you attend school part-time, then in some cases you may no longer work as a job student.
Be sure to check out student@work for helpful tips.
How many days can I work as a job student?
Annually, the government allows you to work 650 hours as a job student. As long as you stay within those 650 hours, you pay less social contributions than a regular employee. On student@work you can check how many days or hours you have left. You can also print out a certificate stating that number of remaining hours. A potential employer can ask for this certificate to make sure that you have not used up your hours.
Can I work more than 650 hours as a job student?
As a job student, do you want to work more than the 650 hours you get from the government? You can, but then you lose the benefit of reduced social contributions. As of the 651th hour, normal social security contributions are due. Attention: you do retain your student status during these extra days, so you must have a student contract.
Can I work as a job student only during the summer months?
Absolutely not! You choose when you work and for how long. Do you want to spend 475 hours selling friscos at all the festivals in the summer? You can. Do you like to keep some days left over to do side jobs elsewhere later in the year? No problem at all. Although, of course, we at IMPACT would prefer you to join us. Whatever you do, just make sure you:
- Do not work more than your maximum number of 475 hours;
- there for classes and school activities: at those times you may not work as a student.
What salary am I entitled to as a job student?
In most industries, collective bargaining agreements and thus (minimum) wages are agreed upon. If there is no agreement, your wage is determined based on the average minimum monthly wage. That amount changes sporadically, but on the website of the FPS Employment, Labor and Social Dialogue you will always find the most recent data.
